MN State Fair

- A successful pilot project in 2007.
- Midwest Coca-Cola Bottling, Coca-Cola Recycling, LLC, the Recycling Association of MN and the Adult Training and Habilitation Center undertook a comprehensive beverage container recycling program in 2008.
- Midwest Coca-Cola Bottling provided over 400 bottle shaped bins, contracted “Message in Bottle” adults with disabilities to sort, and Coca-Cola Recycling took the material.
- Around 70% of the beverage containers sold at the fair were recycled.
- Importance of large event recycling is two fold- the material collected and the education/
awareness to thousands of attendees promoting recycling. - MN State Fair is one of the largest events in the country- so this was a huge undertaking with great success – it received national coverage.
US Women’s Open – Interlachen

- MBA staff worked early on with coordinating committees.
- Bernick’s Pepsi and the Pepsi Bottling Group donated over 100 bins, money and staff to assist with the recycling efforts.
- Recycling Association of MN coordinated the recycling by managing the materials, recruiting volunteers and evaluation of the project.
- It was estimated that over 70% of the total waste generated was recycled or composted.
Republican National Convention

- Midwest Coca-Cola Bottling, Coca-Cola Recycling, LLC and other partners provided comprehensive recycling during the convention.
- Hundreds of bins and collection points were established from the Saturday Media Party on the river in Minneapolis to the Xcel Energy Center to the locations of the protesters.
- Education/marketing efforts promoting recycling were also a part of the program- media kits, billboards in key metro locations, banners at the Science Museum, mobile recycling display, t-shirts…
- The program was a huge success and the collection of thousands of beverage containers, along with the other materials, received extensive local, state and national media coverage.
